WordPress Block Editor

Hello Saturday! I thought I should pop in to make the announcement — wait for it. I am finally trying out the WordPress Block Editor. Eureka! I know right. Or should that be ‘I now write’? Groan!

Ha! Anyway. I thought it prudent to let my readers know, just in case I go a bit quiet. Yes I know I am pretty quiet. And why, if/when you see peculiarities! More, when than if is — Pretty much guaranteed. But I am loving the Block Editor already. Well, what I have my head around so far.

This also means I will need to write another post about blogging tips. No, really I will.

Here is my recent post on blogging tips — https://hopefoundinme.com/2020/02/23/learning-to-blog-with-mecfs/.

Learning to edit

I’m hopeful that it won’t take me four years to get the hang of it in more detail, as has been the case with the Classic Editor. Come on Penny, that’s basically Word. Ok, I know. I’m giving brainfog the credit and I’m sticking to it.

So here is to a cheery weekend with a little problem solving on the side.

See you soon!

Have blessed day.🌸

  1. I hope you end up liking the block editor Penny! I’ve been using it for a few months now, and I actually really like it. I’ve had a few little ‘glitches’ here and there, but overall, it’s pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. Have fun playing around with it!

    1. Thanks so much, Terri. I have been delaying for quite a while. The universal changeover date prompted me to give it a go. I have to say it does seem far more user friendly so far. No more endless scrolling up and down the page. Hoorah!

I do anticipate making errors along the way & frantically looking for definitions in the help articles! Thanks for stopping by, Terri. I hope you’re doing better than ok.💙 xxx

    1. I delayed for months, Mishka. And the changeover date was looming so I decided to go for it. It is actually better. For text, the edit box moves with it, so no more endless scrolling. I’m sure you’d pick it up without a problem. There are differences and I can’t seem to indent text, but there are easier/more variety of content options. Still much to learn. But then what’s new with me and blogging!😁

      1. I guess I’m going to have to figure it out. I did click something that said click here to try now…and everything looked so different 😳 immediately I was like abort, abort! 😂 I did not have the spoons for that. So I guess I’ll have to try it on something I have no intention of posting so I can fiddle with it. At this point I’m glad I started blogging when I did because I don’t know that I could wrap my brain around setting it up anymore. Hoping it’s smooth sailing for you and thank you for sharing your experience! 🌸

      2. Yes, I get you totally, Mishka. I just haven’t had the cog capacity to even consider trying it. But thought I’d better give it a go. I’m sure you be fine. It’s basically the toolbar in separate blocks. I did the same & decided to have a fiddle about with it. And same here. I’m not sure I would either. Hope you can get your head around it, without it being too much of a drain.

I found this article helpful & boosted my courage.

        …but I haven’t read all of it yet!😁

      3. I have been blogging 4 years and I moved to the block editor a year ago as I heard wordpress m.vom would force us to shift. So I thought let me just get used to earlier.

I have a lot blogging friends struggling with this. So for them I created a couple of how to use block editor videos and plan to do more to help everyone out.

The block editor really is easy.

There is even a hack, that allows you to keep blogging, while you secretly become the block editor expert.

You can use the classic editor with the block editor. Whilst this should not be your long term strategy it is a baby step and allows you to get blog posts out whilst you learn.

I cheekily include the link to my blog post here that has both videos on it. I plan to create more. Here is the link hope it helps take pain out if it.

      4. Thanks for dropping your link. Always so helpful to share knowledge & tips. I’m enjoying getting to know the Block editor. Still much to learn, but glad to have made a start. It definitely has more flexibility. Funnily enough, I’ve been blogging for 4 years also. Thanks so much for stopping by.

      5. Lol, I am glad I have been able to help you reduce the brain freeze. And block editor is easy and much better than the classic. One day a few weeks you will be saying, why did I create all that fuss. Enjoy your weekend too

  2. Hello Penny! I am glad you are braving the transition and willing to have fun with block editor – because it is indeed FUN! I have been blogging for 8 years and when I first heard about block editor, I resisted mightily. But then, Cristian Mihai (The Art of Blogging) convinced me to try it and gave me some clues. Like your responder, thoughtsnlifeblog, I am so glad I switched … and I am really tickled with all the ways WordPress responds to its users’ concerns and continues to improve their product. Don’t hesitate to reach out to them for help. They have a great team of supporters out there who are ready to assist you. Bless you, Penny.l ❤ Just have fun! (Oh and btw, thanks for posting "Happy Talk" – we were on the same page today. I posted about dreams, too, today. Ella's song, "If you don't have a dream… how ya gonna make your dreams come true?" fits right in. I love it!!)
