Hope in 2021

Belated Happy Christmas wishes to all my readers.

I hope despite all the challenges this year, you were able to enjoy a very happy Christmas Day.

As many of my readers will probably know, HOPE is one of my favourite words. It is also what my blog is based on.

Grateful for help

The word HOPE gets me through many difficult days. Some recent ones being no exception. Hope got me to Christmas Day. I have been really unwell with an ear infection. So I thought, as well as not seeing my children I wouldn’t be able to eat anything either.

Thankfully I was able to speak by phone with a GP who promptly prescribed antibiotics, and my husband cleverly sourced some Watermelon. Perfect for when you can’t face food. By December 25th I was able to enjoy a meal. Hallelujah!

But why am I talking about hope? Well, it’s what we are all hanging on to for 2021. Isn’t it? I certainly am.

Covid Restrictions

Here in the UK restrictions continue to tighten despite the wonderful news of Covid19 vaccines. Along with the commencement of vaccination of the elderly, extremely vulnerable and some frontline workers.

However, despite this amazing progress a great deal of the UK was not permitted to mix at all over Christmas with family or friends. The remaining regions restricted to gathering in tiny number on Christmas Day only. Strict regional restrictions continue to be the situation beyond Christmas.

Gatherings postponed

We had, prior to the rather late but not unexpected announcement, HOPED to gather with our children. After weeks of preparation, it takes a long time as nothing can be done quickly in our household, we could not. But it was the wisest choice, even though it was incredibly hard and that we haven’t seen them for months.

The one consolation being that our children would not be alone over Christmas. I cannot put into words how grateful I am. I would have snapped like a twiglet if they had been alone.

As a result, I have decided to hang on to HOPE. And am making that statement by keeping our Christmas trees in place and decorated until we can meet as a family again. If it takes all year, they will stay up all year.

Vaccines bring Hope

I also HOPE that as vaccination progresses through this and other countries across the world, Covid19 will be brought under control. I also HOPE that people who can take the vaccine will, which in turn will HOPEFULLY offer greater protection for those who cannot be safely vaccinated.

But if we HOPE for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

Looking to 2021

None of us can see into the New Year, but we can press into what we HOPE to see. And I imagine, along with many, many issues, that must overwhelmingly be a release of the grip of Covid19 on everyones lives. No one can be in any doubt that 2020 has been an incredibly hard year. And utterly devastating for so, so many.

I’m HOPING that 2021 brings healing on so many levels
