Are Roses Your Favourite Flower?

One of my favourite flowers is the rose. If there were to be a flower named as being perfect, I think the rose would be pretty close to the top of the list. Although all flowers offer so much fascination and delight in their sheer beauty. So for Cee’s FOTD I have added a few photos.

A Flower Lift

Most of the roses are from our garden across the year. Three were gifts. I prefer roses without thorns. Why? Because I’m clumsy and because our beautiful sighthound has very fine fur and delicate skin which can easily catch.

My finest hour many years ago was pruning a beautiful yellow rose backwards. What I mean by that is I observed the rose and where the pruning was needed. But for some unknown reason cut it at the base. This negating any hope of the rose surviving. My MEcfs brain at its finest!

She caught her little behind on a rose thorn in the garden during the summer. Poor thing having me dab her little behind just where the fur crowns, with a saline solution and apply sudocreme. Also used by many a parent for nappy rash in babies, sudocreme that is. Fortunately our lovely doggo walker, who is also a qualified groomer, happened to be visiting that day. And helped advise me on best treatment. Her advice was spot on, as within days and repeated applications of ointment the wound was healed.

Roses

Back to the roses. Here are a few.

Four Images Of Pink Roses

This pink and highly scented rose has been resident in the garden for years. The blooms are generous. And as the petals age they fall I to your hand in the softest and most beautiful cascade.

Garden Rose Blooms

This same rose, dwarfed by a rather unkempt apple tree, never ceases to delight.

And provided this beautiful water lily-esque display. Just stunning. I am hoping we can take this rose with us when we move home. A person with garden digging skills will need to be roped in, as sadly (and frustratingly) I can’t do it.

Anniversary Rose

Red Rose Blooms

Stunning cultivated roses given to me by my husband to mark our wedding anniversary this year.

Roses As Gifts

Pink And Rose And Cream Rose Blooms

Two roses received as gifts. One from my mum at Christmas. Yet to be potted on. And one from my siblings in memory of my late father-in-law. It flowered in October, after a haircut as the hot spell had not helped the plant flourish. Timing it pertectly to bloom, before the first frost this week.
